Fitness room

In the 1930s, sports played an important role in the lives of the chatelains of Candé, from authentic recreational sports such as hunting, trap shooting, horse riding, golf and tennis to fitness and exercise.

It was at this time that the Bedaux family had installed a fitness room, a spacious 45 sqm room on the ground floor of the Gothic tower equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Four devices designed by Rossel Schwarz & Co, which also designed the gyms of the Titanic and other major transatlantic liners, are placed along the wall, including two stationary bikes with a speedometer, a horse to practice riding and an electric massage device. These machines are extremely rare and, apart from meticulous restoration work carried out in 2009, no changes have been made to them since they were installed.
